Laramie Movie Scope:
The Rapture

An Apocalyptic horror story

July 6, 1992 -- ``The Rapture'' is a film from way out in right field. It is unconventional in almost every way. It has a raw, almost documentary feel to it, and how many films about Christianity also contain scenes of sex and nudity? There are unexpected plot turns everywhere.

The film has a direct, unblinking, uncompromising, look at Christianity and faith without being preachy. The film's ending is an apocalyptic wild ride, but unfortunately, it is depressing as well.

It is certainly thought-provoking if nothing else. Mimi Rogers stars as a woman who lives a wild, hedonistic life, then converts to Christianity. She believes the end of the world is coming soon and takes drastic measures to ensure that her child is saved, with terrible consequences. It is an outstanding performance by Rogers. David Duchovny also appears in this film. The film rates a C.
