November 10, 1992 -- ``Captain Ron'' is a screwball comedy starring Kurt Russell and Martin Short. Short and his wife, played by Mary Kay Place, and their children, decide to take an extended vacation from their frantic life in Chicago to sail an inherited boat from a remote Caribbean island to Miami where they plan to sell it.

The family undergoes a number of adventures, from weathering a storm at sea to being chased by pirates to rescuing their boat from a Cuban port. Kurt Russell does a good job as the boozy, laid back captain hired by the family to sail their boat to Miami.

The movie is good fun and there are many light moments. It is not very believable and it strains for laughs from time to time. The physical comedy doesn't always work, but it is a pretty good effort as comedies go. If you are tired of seeing people shot, mutilated and blown up, you might want to check this out. It rates a B.
