August 19, 2026 – This movie is a break from ordinary 2026 movies, no colon or hyphen or number in the title, meaning it isn't a remake or a sequel. They say that they don't make movies like they used to anymore, but this movie is an old school science fiction movie — a straight up mystery thriller. Refreshing.

The title of this movie reminds me of a similar title of a Twilight Zone episode, “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” (one of the best episodes of that TV show). The movie starts out, as many of these kinds of movies do, with life on Oak Street looking fairly normal. Not ideal, just normal. The husband, Greg Platt (played by Ewan McGregor) and wife, Denise (played by Ann Hathaway) are not getting along and the kids, Audrey and Brian (Maisy Stella of “My Old Ass” and Christian Convery of “Frankenstein”) are worried their parents may be headed towards a divorce.

The Platts don't get along with their cranky neighbor, Mel Jacobs (P.J. Byrne of “Babylon”) who complains about the Platt's dog, Starbuck getting lose and crapping on his lawn. When Mel complains to Denise about the dog and threatens to shoot it, she loses patience and tells him if he so much as points a gun at Starbuck she will burn down his house. Seems a bit extreme.

One night, after news reports of strange waves in space, a strange light and wind wakes everyone in the house. Starbuck, who was tied up in the back yard, escapes and Greg goes out to find him. The family soon discovers that the whole neighborhood has been transported back in time over 60 million years to the age of dinosaurs. Oak street has become a very dangerous place to live.

Under stress, Denise and Gregg get into a huge argument about their domestic problems before suddenly realizing that they are in a life or death survival struggle which makes their domestic problems irrelevant. More important are food, water and fortifying their house against large, man-eating dinosaurs. A number of neighbors meet a grizzly fate.

Adventures ensue as the Platts work to stay alive in this crazy situation. Along the way, they pick up a stray child, Jeannette (played by Jordan Alexa Davis of “Just Between Us”). The story follows a standard adventure formula until there is a large plot twist at the end. The story is compelling, and the acting, especially by McGregor and Hathaway provides a solid grounding for these fantastic events. The movie also features effective special effects. This movie rates a B.
