January 7, 2026 – Jesse Plemons (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) star in this science fiction dark comedy about two guys trying to save the world from evil aliens.

Teddy Gatz (Plemons) and his autistic cousin, Don (Aidan Delbis) kidnap pharmaceutical company CEO Michelle Fuller (Stone) in the hopes of saving the world. Teddy is convinced that Fuller is an alien from the Andromeda galaxy who plans to wipe out human beings and take over the earth. They drug her at her home and use her own car to take her back to their home.

When Fuller wakes up, she tells Teddy and Don that they should make a deal with her before the police rescue her. She's right, the two would have been captured right away, if Fuller, or her security team, had LowJacked her car, but they did not. They would have been caught if police had followed up on a rather obvious link between Gatz and Fuller's company, but they did not. This is not a believable movie, but it is good, nevertheless.

The whole idea of Fuller being an alien seems equally as absurd as the kidnapping premise, but the movie becomes even crazier as it goes along. It is not surprising at all that the kidnapping plot goes bad, but the exact way it goes bad is totally unexpected, and there is a lot of blood later on.

The connection between Gatz and Fuller is that Fuller's company conducted an experimental medical trial, and Gatz's mother, Sandy (Alicia Silverstone of “The Lodge”) was in the trial. It did not end well. Sandy ended up in a long term coma. When Fuller tries to discuss this with Teddy Gatz, he attacks her and tries to kill her. She gets the better of him, but Don saves him.

As the movie goes on, there are increasing levels of blood and violence, until the final, totally wacky conclusion, when the bodies pile up in unbelievable numbers. It turns out that Teddy Gatz is both a genius, and incredibly gullible. One character kills himself for no apparent reason, and other people die just because they are people. If one were to take this movie seriously, it would be a tragedy, but it is silly enough to be dark comedy.

This movie is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (“Poor Things”) and is a remake of the 2003 Korean film, “Save the Green Planet!” The main thing this movie has going for it is a great performance by Plemons as a certified wacko, and Stone's performance as a smart person who has a lot of trouble trying to deal with this wacko. These characters are compelling enough to keep up my interest in the plot. I did not check my watch very often. It rates a B.
