Laramie Movie Scope: Scoop

A Woody Allen whodunit

Scoop – Woody Allen’s follow-up to Match Point scores laughs in a comedy of mystery and murder set in London with Scarlett Johansson as Sondra Pransky, an American journalism student, who gets a tip from a recently deceased reporter about a serial killer and then goes undercover by pretending to be Jade Spencer, aspiring actress of a wealthy oil man. Woody Allen plays the role of Sidney Waterman, vaudeville prestidigitator, acting as Jade’s father, as the pair investigate suspect Peter Lyman (Hugh Jackman), British aristocrat. But the plot gets complicated when Jade/Sondra falls in love with Peter. This movie offers the humor and antics of some of Allen’s earlier efforts.
