The Science of Sleep – Psi-fi romance (in English, French, and Spanish/subtitles/2005) of a young man Stephane (Gael Garcia Bernal), who has returned to France from Mexico after his father’s death at his mother’s request, and Stephanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg), the girl next door. He believes he has communicated a letter written in his sleep to her because she recited it from memory to him, but his shyness, inexperience, and insecurities create obstacles in his pursuit of her. He believes in “parallel synchronous randomness” and a time machine that allows one to visit the near past or future for one second. His mother says that he attempts to invert his dreams into wakefulness. The office staff where he works seem to represent different primary colors (personalities) of his psyche. Fantasy and reality are continually intertwined.
