Rocky Balboa – (in the theater) Here’s the baby-boomer’s fantasy of the AARP’s has-been challenger in the ring against the world’s heavy-weight boxing champion and holding his own. Rocky (Sylvester Stallone – 60-year-old star, director, screenwriter) in his sixth movie with his brother-in-law Paulie (Burt Young), his wimpy son Rocky Jr., and little Marie (Geraldine Hughes) grown up with her own mixed-race son Steps accepts an exhibition match with world champ Mason Dixon (Antonio Tarver, a professional boxer) in Las Vegas because he still has something left in the basement, a beast of anger and frustration that needs to get out, since his wife Adrian’s death from cancer a few years earlier. I saw the first two, maybe three, Rocky films when they were released, and this one ranks up there with the original.
