Good Night, and Good Luck – black and white, based on actual events from 1953-4, on the CBS TV program See It Now, Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn) and Fred Friendly (George Clooney) take on Senator Joseph McCarthy and the corporate pressure against their exposé of the witch-hunting; parallels with events (in particular the right of an accused to face his accuser) and the state of television-news broadcasting today. Near the end of the movie President Eisenhower says, “I respect the writ of habeas corpus.” Fifty years later Congress is debating the use of torture and limiting the Constitutional writ of habeas corpus.
