Y Tu Mamá Tabién – (Spanish, subtitles) In Mexico City a pair of well-to-do teenage buddies, Tenoch (Diego Lune) and Julio (Gael Garcia Bernal), whose girlfriends have gone to Europe together, meet Tenoch’s cousin’s wife Luisa (Maribel Verdu), fresh from Spain, at a wedding and regale her with a make-believe story of a beach called Heaven’s Mouth. Soon after Luisa gets a call from Jano, her husband, confessing to having an affair; she contacts Tenoch to see if the boys are still going to Heaven’s Mouth. For the teenagers a fantasy comes true, and they get into Julio’s sister’s stationwagon for a five-day drive to the coast with the older, alluring Luisa. Why does she go off with a couple of immature, inexperienced boys and get sexually involved with both? – her husband’s infidelity? a wish to relive her own memories of being a teenager again with her first lover, a seventeen-year-old on a motorcycle who was killed?
During the trip the boys become jealous of each other, and though they tell Luisa that they are “cosmic cowboys” who abide by the sacred rules of their manifesto (e.g., no sex with another’s girl), they confess infidelities with the other’s girlfriend “and your mother too.” Thus, secrets are revealed, or are they fictions too? The truth is elusive. Unexpectedly they actually discover Heaven’s Mouth and far more than they were expecting. Interspersed with the action, a narrator adds social and political commentary.
