Everything Is Illuminated – Elijah Wood as Jonathan Safran Foer (the name of the author of the book on which the movie was based, but not necessarily the person who wrote the novel), a Jewish American who goes to Ukraine seeking to find the village where his grandfather had resided before World War II, accompanied by his Ukrainian translator Alex (Eugene Hutz) and Alex’s obstreperous grandfather (Boris Leskin), serving as driver though he thinks he’s blind and is unwilling to go anywhere without his “seeing-eye bitch” Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. (Jonathan has a dog phobia but must share the back seat with the dog), on another quest involving a very different fellowship of a very different ring; all of your preconceptions and expectations from the outset of this movie will be turned inside out and eventually everything will be illuminated.
