Heavenly Creatures – inspired by Don’t Deliver Us from Evil and based on actual events in New Zealand in 1953-4, director Peter Jackson’s film tells of the obsessive friendship between introvert Pauline (Melanie Lynskey) and extrovert Juliet (Kate Winslet in her debut performance), teenagers caught up in their imaginary Fourth World, that leads to murder. (Not mentioned in the closing remarks, Pauline Parker became a professional writer.)
