Laramie Movie Scope:
Far From Heaven

Far from good

[Strip of film rule]

Far from Heaven – Juliana Moore is the housewife of successful sales executive Dennis Quaid in pre-civil rights Connecticut, 1958; they both get involved in taboos of their time – he in a gay relationship and she a platonic friendship with their Negro gardener (Dennis Haysbert) who offers sage advice – that result in a divorce. It’s a turning of the tables on The Donna Reed Show and Father Knows Best, with stilted performances in the style and manner of the Eisenhower era; the result is far from something I can recommend.
