Laramie Movie Scope:
Casino Royale

Is Craig the real Bond?

Casino Royale – (we saw this in a theater) After Sean Connery left the business of being James Bond 007, I lost interest in the various incarnations from Roger Moore forward. But Daniel Craig, who reminds me of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Steve McQueen, is a sculptured rock turned rocket, let loose on a mountain of a movie that, along with its star, never quits as it twists and turns to the summit, roaring all the way, taking hairpin turns at full throttle.

He has wit and sass; his women are titillating with a touch of class. However, since the film is based on the first of Ian Fleming’s Bond novels, as 007 begins his career, and takes place in 2006, what are we to make of all the previous Bond adventures? Were those pictures like the first Casino Royale spoofs of spies? Is Craig then the real James Bond?
