The Bourne Identity

The Bourne Identity – Based on a Robert Ludlum novel, a young man (Matt Damon) is rescued at sea off the French coast by fishermen; he has two bullet wounds in his back and suffers from partial amnesia. Using his only clue, in Geneva he finds several identities in passports each with his photo – he chooses Jason Bourne from the US passport, several thousands of dollars in various currencies, and a pistol in a Swiss bank account; he leaves the pistol behind and heads for the American embassy where events get unexpectedly exciting.

Soon after on the lam from authorities he finds Marie Helena Krentz (Franka Potente), an American citizen living abroad, who becomes an unwitting accomplice in the exhilarating escapade that follows. In Paris they escape their pursuers during an improbable car chase. Why is a special department with the CIA, codenamed Treadstone, trying to kill them? What is causing Jason’s headaches? Why is the sight of children his only apparent vulnerability? He’s a killing machine that doesn’t understand his purpose.
