Bad Day at Black Rock – (1955, b/w) John J. Macreedy (Spencer Tracy) arrives on the Southern Pacific at a dusty town east of Los Angeles a few months after the end of World War II. The train hasn’t stopped there over the previous four years, and most of the few residents get suspicious of Macreedy’s intentions because they have something to hide. Reno Smith (Robert Ryan) and his fellow 4-Fers, including Hector (Lee Marvin) and Coley (Ernest Borgnine), attempt to scare off Macreedy who literally single-handedly (his left arm has been crippled in the war) defeats them.
