The Third Man – 1949 classic, black-and-white film noir, story and screenplay by Graham Greene, directed by Carol Reed, starring Joseph Cotton as the American pulp-fiction writer Holly Martins who has come to Vienna to see his chum Harry Lime (Orson Welles) who reportedly had just been killed in an automobile accident, Alida Valli as Anna Schmidt, Harry’s girl, and Trevor Howard as Major Calloway; “stunning cinematography, twisting plot, and unforgettable zither score” performed by Anton Karas; curious first names for males, Carol and Holly; reminded me of Casablanca; often ranked on movie lists as one of the greatest of British films.
