May 27, 2008 -- Highlighted by such films as the Academy Award-nominated animated film, “Surf's Up,” along with “Nim's Island” and “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “Mister Magorium's Wonder Emporium” and “The Waterhorse: Legend of the Deep” the Annual Summer Kids Film Series at the Wyo Theatre, 309 S. Fifth St., Laramie, is scheduled to open on June 11. It runs to August 24 with four showings every week. Tickets are now on sale for the series.
The annual Summer Kids Film Series is being held in conjunction with Laramie Parent-Teacher Associations. PTA representatives are selling season tickets to the series until June 1 (season tickets are also available at the Wyo Theatre box office during the hours the theater is in operation). Most of the proceeds from ticket sales go to the PTAs. Season passes cost $15, and cover all movies in the schedule. That works out to $1.50 for each of the 10 films. Each person has to cut out the applicable coupon from the calendar for each movie and bring it to the Wyo for admission. Individual tickets to these films for those without a season pass cost $2 for each film.
The series shows are on Wednesday and Thursday of each week and there are two showings of the same film each of the two days. The first show is at noon and the second is at 2 p.m. (except one longer film, Waterhorse, resulting in the second Waterhorse showing each day to start at 2:15 p.m.). Season tickets are sold for specific days and times, but may be transferred to another day or time the same film is playing, if space is available. A ticket for a specific movie cannot be used for a different movie, however.
Following is the schedule for films in the series along with ratings and reviews. Ratings are as follows: three stars is good, two stars is average and one star is poor. Ratings marked with an asterisk are composite ratings compiled from calculated averages of numerous reviews by members of the Online Film Critics Society or similarly compiled ratings from toptenreviews, and those titles are linked directly to OFCS reviews for those specific films. MPAA ratings are G for Mister Magorium's Wonder Emporium and PG for all the other films in the series. Most films are in the 90 minute running time neighborhood, except for the longer-running Waterhorse, at 112 minutes and Surf's Up, the shortest film in the series, which runs only 85 minutes.
